One real mission. An illustrative practice game.

Find a place for my feet.

Guide the game lander beyond rough ground and settle gently. Then meet the actual engine and landing gear behind the lesson. This is not a replay of the flight or a live telemetry feed.

Find a place for my feet.

Clear the boulders. Brake sideways. Use thrust to settle gently on the violet patch.

Controls & what this illustrates

Arrow keys or A/D steer while focus is inside the game. The slider changes thrust. Reach the clear patch with little sideways motion and a gentle descent. These are invented gameplay units and terrain, not Apollo 11 flight telemetry. The historical lesson is the need to avoid rough ground while managing the approach.

The hardware behind this memory

What gave the science a place to begin?

Controlled descent and landing gear helped Eagle reach and stand on clear ground. That made the crew's surface work possible.

Meet the actual components

Lunar module

Descent engine

The landing engine could change its thrust to slow Eagle and control the descent.

Why it mattered: Managing the approach helped the crew reach clear ground with the equipment they would use for science.

Lunar module

Landing legs and footpads

Four legs with round footpads supported Eagle on the lunar ground. Long contact probes signalled surface contact.

Why it mattered: A stable landing gave the crew and their instruments a place to work.

Crushable landing-gear honeycomb

Aluminium honeycomb in the landing gear was designed to absorb energy by crushing during landing.

Why it mattered: Shock absorption helped the structure take landing loads. Our drawings do not claim a measured compression distance for Eagle's actual touchdown.
